Places to visit

This area of the Charente Maritime borders on the departments of the Gironde and the Dordogne, making it an excellent base for exploring the many historic towns and villages, rich in roman and medieval architecture.

There are many beautiful wine growing villages with such famous names as St.Emilion, Pomerol, Fronsac and Blaye (45 minutes drive).

From Blaye you can take the Ferry across the Gironde to visit the exquisite châteaux of the Médoc. The small vineyards around the village of Cercoux produce the much loved aperitif "pineau". Further afield are the distilleries of Cognac (90 minutes drive).

Much nearer to Moreau, at Montguyon (10 mins.), Jonzac and Montendre (30 mins.) are excellent swimming lakes with sandy beaches, cafés, bars and BBQS.

At Jonzac and Montendre there is also canoeing and other water sports. For horse riding there is a very good and inexpensive stables at Montguyon. Tennis courts available for hire at Cercoux.

The elegant city of Bordeaux once historically linked with England is famous  for its 18th Century architecture.
There are many very interesting antique shops and very large fairs are held each spring and autumn.
There are many fine shops, museums, parks and of course the famous Opera House (45 minutes drive).

he superb unspoilt Atlantic beaches, famous for surf and sand dunes are a 90 minutes drive.
